Israel Faces Deepening Tensions With Turkey Over Raid

Φημολογούνται μέτρα που θα μπορούσε να πάρει η Τουρκία στο ενδεχόμενο συνεχιζόμενης άρνησης του Ισραήλ της επιστροφής των έξι πλοίων
Νέα κρίση φαίνεται ότι θα πλήξει τις σχέσεις της Τουρκίας με το Ισραήλ, καθώς οι ισραηλινές Αρχές αρνούνται να επιστρέψουν τα πλοία που είχαν κατασχεθεί κατά τη διάρκεια των επιδρομών της 1ης Ιουνίου, αναφέρουν διπλωματικές πηγές στην Αγκυρα.
Τα πλοία μετείχαν στον στόλο που μετέφερε τη βοήθεια στη Γάζα και αναμενόταν να επιστρέψουν στην Τουρκία 72 ώρες μετά το επεισόδιο, αλλά δεν υπάρχει ακόμα καμία ένδειξη για διαδικασία επιστροφής τους.
Διπλωματικοί παρατηρητές στην τουρκική πρωτεύουσα προβλέπουν και νέα επιδείνωση στις σχέσεις με το Ισραήλ, ενώ από τουρκικής πλευράς φημολογούνται μέτρα που θα μπορούσε να πάρει η τουρκική κυβέρνηση στο ενδεχόμενο συνεχιζόμενης άρνησης του Ισραήλ της επιστροφής των έξι πλοίων.
Μερικά από τα μέτρα στα οποία θα μπορούσε να καταφύγει η τουρκική κυβέρνηση είναι η μείωση του επιπέδου της διπλωματικής αντιπροσώπευσης στο Ισραήλ, απαγόρευση χρήσης των τουρκικών λιμανιών από σκάφη με ισραηλινή σημαία, άρνηση έκδοσης ειδικών θεωρήσεων για Ισραηλινούς υπηκόους, κατάργηση συμβολαίων προμηθειών, κατάργηση σχεδίων συνεργασίας, κατάργηση των συμφωνιών συνεργασίας στον τομέα της τεχνολογίας και ακύρωση αθλητικών συναντήσεων.

Turkish Prime Minister threatens to join next Gaza Flotilla and Sweden Blockades Israeli ships
Haaretz has breaking news that Turkish Prime Minister may join a Turkish ship aiming to break the Gaza blockade.

“As part of the open conflict between Turkey and Israel following the massacre against the ‘freedom sail’ to Gaza and the protest sparked in the world, Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan is considering going to Gaza himself in order to break the blockade imposed on the Strip.” Al-Mustaqbal also reports that Erdogan has informed the US Administration of his plan to send a Turkish naval escort with another flotilla of aid, but that the Americans have requested the Prime Minister delay the escalation. It is not clear whether Erdogan would actually board the flotilla himself, but Al-Mustaqbal (Future) newspaper describes the source of the story as “knowledgeable”. The prospect of the naval confrontation between Turkey and Israel is a dangerous escalation of the crisis, potentially resulting in open conflict between the two states, which could easily draw in Israel’s traditional enemies.

A once-close ally of Israel, Turkey became a harsh critic after the Israeli offensive in Gaza in December 2008. But the deaths of Turks on in international waters has brought the strained relationship between Israel and Turkey's Islamist-leaning government close to breaking point.
Turkey said on Wednesday it was ready to normalize ties with Israel if it lifted the blockade on Gaza and said "it was time calm replaced anger" in the wake of Israel's deadly raid on a Turkish-backed flotilla.
"The future of ties with Israel will depend on the attitude of Israel," Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu told a news conference in Ankara on Wednesday on his return from the United States. Turkey recalled its ambassador to Israel following Monday's storming of Gaza bound aid ships.

A senior Turkish diplomat warned that his country might sever diplomatic relations with Israel unless its government apologized for the attack, in which nine Turkish citizens were killed; consented to an international investigation; and lifted its blockade of Gaza.
“Israel is about to lose a friend; this is going to be a historical mistake,” said the diplomat, Namik Tan, Turkey’s ambassador to Washington. “The future of our relationship will be determined by Israel’s actions.”
