It's not Mardi Gras...! Just identity confusion. |

On the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the Munich Security Conference, the Committee has invited the FYROM and the Greek Prime Ministers in hopes that the two will have a chance to discuss the matter of the FYROM’s final name. Somehow, they have missed the fact that the issue is in the hands of the UNSC, but also they have missed the fact that Greece has done more than its share in the charade of the Interim Agreement.
I see the whole thing as a huge hoopla, trying to justify some politicians’ positions. The timing of the invitation and the manner that it was issued indicates that the FYROM has done a terrific job lobbying for their cause, not just as politicians but also as government engaging their own diaspora in more than one ways. Stefan Fülle and the rest are not seriously interested in Greece’s grave national security concerns a position that reflects expansionistic approach of the FYROM’s government in a variety of ways, but they want to justify their pay pretending that they care about peace. Chamberlain and Hitler had done the same, but failed. It is a lesson that should have learned. They obviously are bad students of history.
If they really wanted peace, they should be talking to the Slavic government which is only interested in creating generations of Gruevski’s Youth (Gruevskijugend) under the guise of faulty historical reenactments and events. Instead of Boy/Girl Scouts Mr. Gruevki and his regime have converted innocent children to neighbor haters (that includes their Albanian compatriots), dressed up in costumes of supposedly ancient Macedonians as if the whole country celebrate an everlasting Mardi Gras.
In more than 20 years, the FYROM not only has not moved a millimeter away from its position, on the contrary it has raised more issues beyond the norms of international law such as the explicit or implicit recognition of their Slavic ethnicity and language by Greece under the fictitious name “Macedonian”. Thus the FYROM wants to shorten the period of its territorial claim over Macedonia, but this time with consent and approval of Greece.
In view of such an attitude, I find it disturbing that the legislative body of the EU sees the name dispute as if it were a matter of whims, instead of taking the issue seriously as it is, a nationalistic government which instills to its people, and indeed its future, the spirit of hatred ready to turn into willing executioners and limitless aggression by teaching its people that their nation has an important role in history and a unique destiny to fulfill, the redemption of their inherent fatherland, i.e. Macedonia.
In the pretention of his antiquization project Nikola Gruevski’s “charismatic” leadership, which reminds us of Hitler’s delusional sociopathic behavior, hides the seeds of his own despotism. Yet, not one of these “peacemakers” have realized that they become hostages of their own wishful thoughts allowing themselves to become Gruevski’s pawns.
