EU in Skopje: good-neighbourliness as precondition for membership

The importance of good neighbourly relations in the process of negotiations with the European Commission ςασ stressed in its progress report of 2010 οn Skopje, which was discussed in the Foreign Affairs Committee.

The report calls on Governments to avoid gestures that could have negative effects, while urging the Prime Ministers in Skopje and Greece to summon the political courage and willingness to compromise and find a solution satisfactory to both sides.

Still, the report for Skopje note that there are bilateral issues must be resolved by the parties in a spirit of good neighbourliness.

Also, the author of the report appeals to all key actors to show responsibility and determination to resolve all outstanding issues, which not only hinder the accession process of the candidate country, but also have an impact on inter-ethnic relations, economy and regional stability.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister, Antonio Milososki Skopje said today from Brussels that appeal proceedings in the country of the International Tribunal in the Hague in Greece is not connected to the parallel process unfolding under the auspices of the UN, aimed at resolving the name.
